It was the first Sunflower Club of the year today. One boy was having his last day as he is turning 5 next week and one boy had his first visit to the Sunflower Club.
l
Look at their beautiful sunflowers they have made.

Today we were learning about the difference between letters and words and we talked about the letter i. We had a story about Impy Ink and we read a story called ' I Can Write'. We practised writing 'I' on the Whiteboards.

We made insect necklaces -  don't we look flash!

Mrs McGimpsey was at Sunflower Club today. She took us for a walk around the playground to see where we line up if there is an emergency or earthquake.
Two children had their last day at Sunflower Club because they are turning five next week.

Then new children made their sunflower to go up on our wall.
Then we made repeating patterns with concrete materials.

Movies at Discovery

This week the children have been preparing for movie time at Discovery. They have been making money, tickets and decorating popcorn bags.
Today The year one classes went to the movies in Room 13. Everyone had to buy an admission ticket, get it clipped as they went into the room, then line up for a bag of popcorn. The children enjoyed sitting in the darkened room watching the movie.
Thanks to Mrs Hurren and Mrs Turner for this lovely learning experience.

Tuesday 5 August

The sun was shining today at Sunflower Club. Today we looked at letters and words and used the magic pen to find things with a's' sound.
Then we listened to a story about Annie Apple. She is clever and can make sounds at the beginning of words like alligator, astronaut and ant.
We made ants. Can you see our scary faces?

Reading Together Programme

On Wednesday evening we had our second workshop of the Reading Togethe Programme. We started off by enjoying some pizza and Danny from the Upper Hutt Public Library talked about his role.
Our focus in the workshop was assessing if texts were easy, instructional or too hard.
The parents and their children had time to read together and put into practice some of the strategies we had talked about in the first workshop.
